Consisting of courtship letters and original poems written by Foster N. Martin, Jr., while at home on vacation from medical school, addressed to Miss Helen Gwendolyn Nolte, a student at the College of Charleston, with comments on his natural history observations and collections, literary interests, Letters also discuss events in Newberry, S.C., including 2 letters, 1 Jan. 1930, describing Emancipation Day celebrations among the African American population of Newberry; Martin's letters dating from June - Aug. 1931, written from Saluda (Polk County, N.C.), discuss his work at the Infant's and Children's Sanitarium. Also includes Helen G. Nolte's report cards, Jan. and Feb. 1931, from the College of Charleston where Nolte was a member of the Freshman class.
